Ethiopia
Ethiopia is an ancient country located in the Horn of Africa, where kingdoms, civilizations, and religions have intersected for thousands of years. For my journey, I concentrated my time in the South Omo Valley, situated within the Great Rift Valley in the remote southwestern corner of the country.
My goal was to explore and photograph several ethnic tribes who have steadfastly retained their traditions. Each of these tribes possesses its own distinctive language and culture, deeply embedded in the social and spiritual fabric of their communities. I was driven by a desire to bear witness to an untainted way of life that is fast disappearing due to the encroachment of modernism.
While I expected to take many photographs, I never anticipated how enraptured I would be by the joyous friendship expressed by the men and women of these eleven tribes. I have never taken so many photos in such a short period; this stemmed from the intimate nature of my engagements with each tribe, combined with their innate beauty. This striking presence is accentuated by artistic body paint, deep scarification, and elaborately adorned beads.
