Guinea
Several years ago, I provided humanitarian support to refugees relocated in Guinea who had fled civil wars and violent upheavals in neighboring Sierra Leone and Liberia.
While I lacked a dedicated photography agenda or high-quality equipment at the time, these initial photos captured the daunting conditions facing individuals trying to rebuild their lives.
Recently, I returned to Guinea for a development assistance assignment. Although the regional refugee crisis had largely resolved, the deep-seated economic challenges facing this West African nation persisted.
While local government restrictions limited my photography this time around, the rare opportunities I did have to shoot with a better camera fully compensated for those constraints, resulting in a powerful visual record.
